Ask clients if any RSU are included in stocks transactions.
Identify on 1099-B any stock what's up transactions associated with the same company name on W2.
Always look for stock transactions on 1099 B with no cost basis (often RSU stocks do not have cost basis reported to IRS)
Always look for supplemental info attached to 1099 B (cost basis and adjusted cost basis)
If no basis can be found request the notice of vesting letter be provided by client which also list the pertinent info. This is not a standard letter so not as convenient as the supplemental info to the 1099-b and will be discussed further in later section.
